Do not oversize for growth
Young players need to secure the ball and make a comfortable throw. An oversized glove can be difficult to close and can slow the learning process. A future size change is often more useful than forcing a too-large option today.
Position still leads
A youth infielder often compares a shorter, controllable pattern; youth outfielders may compare more reach. Catchers and first basemen need dedicated mitts.
Break-in is a fit decision
Game-ready and softer profiles can help a newer player close the glove comfortably. Premium leather can be a worthwhile choice when the player is willing to complete a proper break-in.
Bring useful feedback
Record the current glove size if known and ask whether it feels too large, too small, too stiff, too shallow or too deep. Use that feedback to compare one nearby option at a time.
